Most odour-control fabrics rely on a chemical antimicrobial finish applied after the fabric is made, or fragrance that masks smell. ReBrew™ builds the function into the yarn instead. Spent coffee grounds are dried, carbonised and milled into porous particles carried on recycled polyester filament, then the yarn is blended with organic cotton for a softer hand-feel.
Yesterday's coffee still has work to do: carbonised, milled and carried in the yarn that keeps a tee fresh.
The porous particles adsorb odour molecules the way charcoal traps them, and the tee never smells of coffee. ReBrew™ draws on two reclaimed streams, spent coffee grounds and recycled polyester, alongside organic cotton. It is worn as tees, including the Paire x Dua collaboration, putting the technology inside a familiar summer shape.
Used coffee grounds are collected, dried, cleaned, carbonised and ground into a fine powder. That powder is incorporated into recycled polyester, then knitted with organic cotton to form ReBrew™.
No. The grounds are processed into carbonised powder before entering the yarn, leaving the finished fabric without a coffee scent.
The coffee-derived component helps manage odour, while the fabric moves moisture away from the skin and dries quickly. Its lightweight hand-feel keeps the tee easy through heat, travel and everyday wear.
Once the spent grounds are dried and carbonised, what is left is a highly porous carbon particle. Carried on the surface of the recycled polyester filament, that structure adsorbs odour molecules — traps them in the pores, the way activated charcoal does — instead of covering them with fragrance. Nothing is added to the fabric to make it smell clean.
Follow the care label on the individual tee. Wash cool on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, then air-dry away from direct heat to help preserve the fabric.
ReBrew™ gives used coffee grounds a second use alongside recycled polyester and organic cotton. It makes an overlooked waste input useful without turning the finished T-shirt into a technical-looking garment.
Turn it inside out and wash with like colours.
Machine wash cool, on a gentle cycle. Wash it in a full load: recycled polyester sheds tiny fibres in the wash, and load size is the single biggest lever you have. Research on polyester fabrics found a garment washed alone shed around five times more fibre per kilo than the same fabric in a full 2.5kg load, because a near-empty drum means more water and more agitation for each item.
Using soap? Keep it mild. No bleach, and no fabric softener in particular. The odour control in ReBrew™ comes from porous coffee particles carried in the yarn, and softener works by coating fibres — you'd be sealing over the thing you bought the tee for.
Air-dry. It's better for your Paire and the planet, and it avoids the heat and tumbling that loosen fibres in the first place. Low setting if you must tumble dry.
A cool iron if it needs one. Most of the time it won't.
Air it rather than rewashing it on reflex. The odour control isn't a finish sprayed onto the surface, so there's nothing sitting on the fabric to scrub off — the coffee particles are carried inside the yarn itself. And no, the tee never smells of coffee.
Fold and store completely dry. Cotton is the fibre in this blend that minds damp — put anything away with moisture still in it and you're inviting mildew, which stains permanently. Breathable storage, never sealed plastic for long periods.
