The Wool Jumper, Without the Itch

Most people who say they can’t wear wool have only ever worn coarse wool. SilKnit™ blends Mulberry silk with Australian Merino — so our merino wool jumpers and cardigans keep you warm without irritating your skin, and look considered rather than chunky.

Why SilKnit™?

  • Silk-smooth handfeel: Mulberry silk softens the knit and adds a subtle lustre you can see as well as feel.
  • Merino warmth: natural insulation and breathability, so the jumper works indoors without overheating you.
  • Gentle on skin: designed specifically for people who find traditional wool knitwear scratchy.
  • Layers cleanly: a smoother finish that sits flat under a jacket instead of bulking up.

Why Wool Feels Itchy (And Why This Doesn’t)

Prickle isn’t an allergy — it’s mechanical. Coarse fibres above roughly 30 microns are stiff enough to press into the skin rather than bend against it, and that pressure is what your nerve endings register as itch. Fine Merino bends instead of poking. Blend it with Mulberry silk, which is one of the smoothest natural fibres there is, and the sensation disappears entirely for most people.

Caring for Knitwear

Wool knitwear wants less washing than you think. Air it after wearing, spot-clean marks, and wash cold on a wool cycle only when it genuinely needs it. Dry flat rather than hanging, so the weight of the water doesn’t stretch the shoulders. Treated this way, a good jumper lasts years rather than seasons.
